It’s easy for winter blues to spill over into anxiety and depression. We know those things can make kids feel less capable. As a parent, it’s natural for your instinct to be to protect them. The question is: How can we keep supporting kids in doing hard things?
How To Help Kids Beat The Winter Blues
Move: Put down screens and get outside. Indoor snowball fights anyone?!
Connect: Plan play dates or get togethers. If your kids are healthy & able, connecting online doesn’t count! We need to be face-to-face.
Take Risks: This helps build confidence, independence & reduces anxiety. Doing hard things build resilience today’s kids so desperately need!
Ask yourself as a parent or caregiver…
What are 2 things you are doing for your kids right now that they can do for themselves?
What are 2 things they can almost do for themselves?
And then I want every parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles to all STOP doing those 4 things. Kids learn they are capable by experience. Let them do hard things!
