the “little yellow house that helps people” isn’t so little anymore.
When I started Daystar 40 years ago, I could never have dreamed where we would be today.
I simply saw a need for kids to have a safe place. A place to share honestly about their hurts and questions and fears. A place to be encouraged by their peers and discover their purpose. A place with other voices speaking into who they saw God was creating that person to be. A place that felt like home.
It started with a small group of kids helping me dream about what Daystar could be. Today, it is a big house of hope that welcomes over 2,000 kids each year. We’ve never wanted to be a huge organization, rather to meet the needs of hurting families that are right in front of us and then send them out to touch their own neighborhoods and schools.
We look at our little yellow house and simply put…
we are bursting at the seams!
We have more counselors than we have offices. Many days, we have therapists switching office spaces between appointments to whatever is available, counseling in the dining room and art room and any spare space we can find. We have a growing awareness of security and how to best serve our families. We are over our parking capacity and have parents being ticketed for overflow parking on the street.
And I have the best news to share...A generous donor saw our great need and made a life-changing gift to purchase the property right next door for Daystar. Now, we need your help to make a vital addition to our building come to life on our new property!
this plot of land is the final missing piece of the puzzle for Daystar’s campus
sandwiched right between our main house and lower parking lot – and we are thrilled to have secured it after years of dreaming and praying that it could be ours.
Now the real adventure begins…Putting nails and hammers to work. It will benefit not only the individuals supported by it, but also meet the rising demand for services and provide much needed space for group therapy and family community. Our architect has drawn up beautiful plans that make the new addition fit seamlessly into the existing charm of our home while providing multiple layers of desperately needed space, functionality, beauty and welcome. More counseling offices. Additional group therapy spaces. Added parking spaces. Increased security.
good things are coming...
And already underway!
Parents have already made significant contributions and more continue to do so everyday. 100% of Daystar’s board and staff are participating. Local businesses and corporations are already involved, for which we are grateful. However, it is vital to continue the campaign to finish the building.
We need your help now. Won't you please consider making a transformational gift? Will you put pen to paper and make this dream come true for hurting families at Daystar?
